Director Applications for Fly North Theatricals

Fly North Theatricals is seeking applications for directors and programming for a variety of upcoming productions. We produce professional, non-equity theater in the city of St. Louis. All applicants must be local, we cannot provide housing. Director will be paid a stipend for the entire production.

FNT is seeking applications and programming suggestions for the following:

Summer 2027: Season Tentpole Musical Production

Auditions: January // Rehearsal Period: June 12-July 15, Mon-Thu evenings, Sat afternoons

Performances: July 16-Aug 8 // Venue: Greenfinch Theater & Dive // Minimum Stipend: $2000

Show Selection Guidance:  As our tentpole production, we like a show to have name recognition or an immediately evocative elevator pitch. We seek to program shows that are timely in their themes, and also cherish overwhelming vocal moments. A show that can be staged with a cast of 12 or fewer is ideal. Prior shows include "Assassins," "Caroline, Or Change," and "Sweeney Todd." As a guiding principle, we like to say "big show, small." This does not necessarily mean "Jaime Lloyd minimalism." Dream big, strategically.

Fall 2027: A Play
(I guess we do plays now too)

Auditions: TBD // Rehearsal Period: TBD

Performances: Oct 14-24 // Venue: Greenfinch Theater & Dive // Minimum Stipend: $1000

Show Selection Guidance: This one's a bit more of a wildcard, so pitch us something we can't say no to. As a new and untested addition to our season lineup, keeping the production economical is a factor, but don't let that make you shy away from the impossible (but avoid a cast of twenty). Not required, but we love stunning visual moments and surprises that get audiences talking.

Fall 2027: Starling Company, our fee-free Youth Theatre Musical Production

Auditions: Late Summer // Rehearsals Begin: Sept 28, Tue/Thu + some Wed evenings, Sat afternoons

Performances: Nov 12-21 // Venue: Jefferson Avenue Mission // Minimum Stipend: $1500

Show Selection Guidance: We seek dignified, full-length musicals for young performers. We have historically had blended casts of primarily high school, some middle school, and a few as young as 8 or 10. We present the students with high expectations and a professional environment coupled with the necessary support to rise to the occasion. We do not want to program Disney properties or any Jr. or School versions of scripts for this show. Prior shows include "A Christmas Story: The Musical," and "Anastasia."

January 2028: New Works Development, play or musical

Auditions: TBD // Rehearsals Begin: TBD

Performances: TBD January 2028 // Venue: Greenfinch Theater & Dive // Minimum Stipend: $1500

We are seeking only director applications, no show suggestions for the New Works slot. We plan to announce a separate submissions and selection process next year. After show selection, director would be expected to partake in various public and private readings in the months leading up to the staged production. If you are a writer who would like to be considered, be sure to follow us on socials and/or check the website for future announcements.

Spring 2028: Theatre For All Initiative (Blended Youth & Adult) Musical Production

Auditions: TBD // Rehearsals Begin: TBD

Performances: TBD, likely April 2028 // Venue: Greenfinch Theater & Dive // Minimum Stipend: $1500

Show Selection Guidance: Part of our mission is to give our private students opportunities to perform alongside local professionals. We typically cast this show internally from our studio and actors we have worked with before. We look forward shows that specifically have youth roles for youth performers, or can be cast creatively with earmarked roles for youth and adults. Prior shows include "A Year With Frog And Toad," "Peter And The Starcatcher," "Spelling Bee," and "Fiddler On The Roof."
